Custom providers

models.json

Additional OpenAI-compatible providers and models can be declared in ~/.notagent/agent/models.json. Entries there are layered over the built-in catalog: new providers appear in the picker, and known models can be overridden per field.

The catalog

The binary contains a built-in model catalog, so it remains usable offline. Catalog updates for authenticated providers are fetched from notagent.dev and cached in ~/.notagent/agent/models-store.json.

To force a refresh without changing the user-owned models.json, run:

notagent update --models

Compatibility

settings.json, models.json, models-store.json and the session JSONL are read by older and newer builds of notagent. New fields are always optional, and tags are never renamed, so a file written by one version keeps working with the next.
